Degen 1121: alcuni commenti (Ricevitori)

Ciao a tutti,

Aspettiamo altre prove,
Fabrizio

First at all sorry for my poor english..I´ll try to do the best I
can.
As a radio fan here in Argentina, recently I recovered my interest
in shortwave radios; in that way, I discovered the Degen radios thru
Ebay. I started buying the DE1103, and then the DE1105 and DE11.
After that, was the time for the awaited DE1121! I bought it from a
Gentleman seller from China (Mr. Tao Qu) TQUCHINA (I recommend
strongly to buy from this Seller, he is serious and has excellent
communications and service!)and he sent me the radio thru EMS and
arrived in a surprising 5 days! Let`s talk about the radio. I am a
little bit disappointed. Starting with the body, it is the same size
as the 1103 but lighter; I had to double check to see if the
batteries were inside the radio, because it is very very light
compared with the 1103. The body of the radio is black rubberized
(and I don´t like that, because I had a bad experience with my
Tivoli Pal which is rubberized too and peel the rubber off after a
couple of months of use!). Keys are not back lighted at all as in
the 1103. The radio itself has two displays, one main display (which
is the MP3 Unit display) and a sub mini display. Starting with the
sub mini display, It has not backlight at all (?) and also it is
extremely small, and except by the hour, the information (icons) on
it are unreadable for the human eye (you should use a microscope to
see the icons clearly). Talking about the radio part itself, the
main radio display (which is at the same time the MP3 display) is
tiny, but not so bad as the sub display, with green led
illumination. Also has a simulated analog dial for the radio (nice!)
Memories can be labelled using the pc editing a .txt file and
transfering it to the radio after that. The AM Broadcast and FM
performance is similar to the 1103, but I found (my personal taste)
that the speaker of the 1103 has more pleasant sound in FM than the
1121. The most disappointing thing I found in couple of days of
partial, short use of the DE1121 is it shows a lot of spurious
and/or ghost images over a big part of the shortwave spectrum! I
don't know if it is a fault of my unit, but I guess no. I checked it
against my 1103 and there are a big difference, no images on 1103! A
less elaborate radio section? maybe. Reception once tuned is not
bad, audio is not bad, but I need to use the DE1121 more maybe next
weekend to have a more deep opinion, but the images are notorious
with first use. Talking about the MP3, it is a little bit slow when
you go from one file to another (I have a Pogo! RYW AM FM MP3
Portable) and it is by far more responsive handling files. Another
big dissapointment was the MP3 memory cannot be upgrade; it is a
256MB Flash memory and no card slots available. I suspect that from
the begining, but I had some hope that a slot could be there...no
luck. The recording section is great, you can record radio in 32KBPS
with very good sound, but no single button recording; You need to
enter the radio main menu, select recording and ...so no rush
recordings! In the Pogo! just press the red button and voila!
Fina feelings from this firs impressions...As dedicated radio, I
choose by far the 1103 over the 1121. But, if you are like me, a
radio maniac and want it all, it is not a bad adition to your
collection...specially for the price you can get it from China. The
Kaito's price advertised seems to me a lot of money for what you
get. I can give you more information if you want, so ask me! Again,
sorry for my english, but is better than babelfish traslator! Pablo
